Community Announcement: Why Cozy MC Has Banned Casino-Style Games
Hi everyone - you may have noticed a new addition to our rules:
No casino or gambling simulations.
Games that mimic roulette, blackjack, slot machines, or any form of chance-based wagering are not permitted.
This change is one of our biggest policy updates yet, and we want to share the why behind it.
What Minecraft's Rules Say
That is Mojang's only explicit mention of "gambling" in its current legal documentation - and it is listed alongside content universally recognized as unsafe for minors.
Because all Minecraft servers - official or community-run - are bound by the same Usage Guidelines and EULA, every server must ensure that its content is suitable for audiences of all ages.
For that reason, casino-style builds and gambling mechanics cannot be hosted under these rules.
"All servers, entitlements, and advertising are suitable for audiences of all ages (for example: gambling, pornography, violence, terrorism, or other unsafe/mature content) and they do not harm the Minecraft brand." - Minecraft Usage Guidelines, minecraft.net
Why It Matters Beyond the Rules
Mojang's stance is grounded in real-world research.
Studies show that simulated gambling - even when no money changes hands - can increase later gambling behavior and risk perception issues among youth.
From Adolescents Who Play and Spend Money in Simulated Gambling Games (PMC9517771):
Section 1.3 and Conclusion highlight that exposure to gambling-like games, even without financial stakes, normalizes risk-taking and can lead to harmful behaviors.
That is why Mojang categorizes gambling as unsafe/mature content - it is about protecting kids and keeping Minecraft safe for all ages.
What's Still Welcome
We love creative redstone engineering and mini-games - and those remain fully encouraged!
As long as there is no chance-based wagering or casino imagery, it is absolutely welcome on Cozy MC.
- Logic, timing, and puzzle games
- Arcade- or fair-style skill-based builds
- Educational redstone exhibits or demonstrations
Our Commitment
Cozy MC will always aim to follow Minecraft's rules in both letter and spirit - and to lead with kindness, safety, and creativity.
