Community Announcement: Why Cozy MC Has Banned Casino-Style Games
Hi everyone - you may have noticed a new addition to our rules:
No casino or gambling simulations.
Games that mimic roulette, blackjack, slot machines, or any form of chance-based wagering are not permitted.
Update (October 2026): the rule now lives on the Gameplay page: no casino mechanics or chance-based wagering, like roulette, blackjack, slots, or prize pools.
This change was one of our biggest policy updates at the time, and we want to share the why behind it.
What Minecraft's Rules Say
"Do not do anything that would harm or damage our name, brand, or assets." - Minecraft Usage Guidelines, minecraft.net
That's one of Mojang's essential guidelines, which apply to anyone using Minecraft's name, brand, or assets, and the first example it gives of what does that harm is gambling, listed alongside pornography, violence, terrorism, and other unsafe or mature content. Servers that make money have a second rule on top: the server, anything it sells, and its advertising must be suitable for audiences of all ages, with gambling again the first example.
Every community server, Cozy included, runs under Minecraft's EULA and these Usage Guidelines. Cozy MC takes no money at all, but our own rules hold everything to the same standard: all content must be suitable for all audiences.
For that reason, casino-style games and gambling mechanics cannot be hosted under these rules.
Why It Matters Beyond the Rules
There's research behind this, too. A 2022 study of Australians aged 12 to 17 found that those who played simulated gambling games, free or paid, were more likely to show signs of problem gambling, and the more money they spent on them, the higher the risk. It found a link rather than proof of cause, and its authors recommend a preventive approach to young people and simulated gambling.

For a community open to players from 13 up, that's reason enough for us.

We love creative redstone engineering and mini-games - and those remain fully encouraged!
Ideas that fit
As long as it isn't casino gaming or chance-based wagering and doesn't imitate it, like blackjack, slots, roulette, betting, or prize pools, it's welcome on Cozy MC:
- Logic, timing, and puzzle games
- Arcade- or fair-style skill-based builds
- Educational redstone exhibits or demonstrations
