The rule. No griefing, no stealing, PvP only by mutual consent — and the same community rules on every Cozy server.
Griefing and theft
- How it's found. Every block placed or broken and every container opened is logged with the player's name and the time, and kept for 90 days. Anyone can check with
/co inspect. Stolen items are traced and recovered wherever they end up. There is no such thing as a theft that leaves no record. - Don't break or modify builds that aren't yours.
- Containers are never public by default — chests, barrels, shulker boxes, hoppers, furnaces, dispensers, droppers, item frames, armor stands, and any other storage — in every dimension, including spawn areas. A container isn't public because nobody's nearby, it has no sign, it looks old or hidden, its owner is unknown, it's at spawn, or it contains something valuable.
- You may take from a container only when its owner has clearly marked it free, the owner gives you permission, or staff confirms it's available. If ownership is unclear, leave it and ask. Anyone can use
/co inspectto see who placed, broke, or opened something — please do, before you touch anything you're unsure about. - Harvesting crops growing in the world is allowed, and so is renewable use of someone's villagers and animals — trading, shearing, milking — because nothing is taken that doesn't come back. Taking from containers is not. Killing, moving, or carting off someone's villagers, animals, or pets is griefing, whether or not a block moved.
- If it isn't yours, leave it alone.
Theft enforcement
- You are responsible for what you remove from containers, shops, and storage. Forgetting to pay, misunderstanding ownership, or intending to return it later doesn't stop it from being theft, and returning it after you're caught doesn't guarantee reversal.
- A first substantiated theft may result in a permanent ban. If staff allow a return, that return is leniency, comes with a final warning for theft, and may require removal of items, wealth, and resources obtained through or influenced by the theft — inventory, ender chest, containers, stashes, shop stock and profits. Builds are generally not removed unless they store affected items.
- A second substantiated theft is a permanent Minecraft ban. A return, repayment, wipe, or the passage of time doesn't erase the first one.
- Only a recorded, communicated theft finding counts. A precautionary rollback or item recovery for another reason is not a theft finding.
- If you've taken something and want leniency, self-report promptly. Waiting means more will be removed when it comes to light.
Stolen items don't become clean
Stolen items stay stolen when they're dropped, left at spawn, put in a container, passed through a shop or giveaway, given to someone, moved through another account, or labeled free. Don't knowingly receive, move, hide, spend, sell, or distribute stolen items. If something's obviously off — a secret pickup spot, an unmarked stash, a big unexplained gift right after a theft — leave it alone. Staff may recover stolen items wherever they're found. Possessing them without knowledge isn't an offense, but the items still go back.
PvP
Consent only — no traps, ambushes, baiting, or forced fights. Starting a fight gives the other person consent to fight back; if you retaliate or continue, you're a participant.
Dupes and exploits
- TNT duping is allowed. All other dupes are prohibited.
- Using bugs, glitches, exploits, unintended mechanics, or bypasses to gain items, access, advantages, permissions, or to circumvent server restrictions is prohibited. Report a bug; don't use it.
- Do not attempt to recover Cozy's world seed — including with seed-cracking tools — and don't share or use it. Report accidental exposure privately to staff.
Automation and chunk loading
- Auto-clickers only at private farms with the farm owner's permission, never at public farms or in ways that keep others from using shared resources.
- AutoTotem and anything that equips or uses items for you is not allowed.
- Chunk loaders: each person may keep up to 3 permanently active without asking — across all of their accounts. Loaders you place count against you regardless of whose project they serve. More than that, or any always-loaded farm with heavy activity, needs staff approval in advance, requested by one named player who is responsible for it. Staff may require any loader, always-loaded farm, or contraption to be reduced or removed when it puts excessive load on the server. Splitting across alternate accounts or kingdoms doesn't work; related projects run by the same people are treated as one.
Spawn areas
The shared spawn areas — Overworld ±500, Nether ±200, End ±500 — are governed by community decisions in World Rules & Decisions, which are separate from these rules and change by petition and vote. The parts that are rules:
- Within the Overworld spawn area: no shops, no personal storage, no auto-farms. Crops for food or decoration are fine.
- No TNT, gunpowder, or wither skulls stored in containers, shops, or displays in any spawn area.
- Spawn plots, shop rights, and other community-granted permissions are privileges, not property. They can't be sold, transferred, or exchanged without staff approval, and the End shopping district's plots and structures can't be bought or sold at all.
- Loose items left unattended at spawn aren't automatically free. Staff may treat them as abandoned; players may not. Don't leave anything at spawn you aren't prepared for staff or cleanup systems to remove.
- Infrastructure in one dimension doesn't establish ownership or a claim in another.
Gambling, real money, and accounts
- No casino mechanics or chance-based wagering — roulette, blackjack, slots, prize pools.
- No real-money trading of any kind: no buying, selling, brokering, or transferring items, builds, land, services, accounts, permissions, or shop rights for money, gift cards, Nitro, crypto, or anything of real-world value.
- Accounts may not be bought, sold, shared, or transferred.
Creative work
Map art, written books, and builds have their own page: Creative Work. The short version: copying someone's work needs their permission; the copy you bought is yours.
Events and other Cozy servers
- Follow each event's guidelines. Don't disrupt them.
- Creative, Duels, and Hardcore are separate worlds with their own gameplay settings — Duels means consenting to PvP while there; Hardcore means consenting to PvP, griefing, theft, and traps. The community rules apply on all of them.
Why this exists
The world never resets and there are no land claims. That only works if "your build is safe" is something people take completely for granted — which means the theft rule has to be near-absolute, because every judgment call is another thing a new player has to worry about. The gambling rule is our choice for a mixed-age community. The real-money and account rules follow Minecraft's usage guidelines.
