Creative Work

• A map or book you bought or were given is yours: keep it, display it, trade it, or give it away — as that one item.
• Making another copy needs the creator's permission — a new map made at the canvas, a copy at a cartography table, a copied book. It doesn't matter whether the copy is for you or for someone else, or whether the original is for sale.
• Map art and books are never free to copy by default, the same way containers are never free to take from. A creator can mark a work open — a sign at the canvas or the shop, or a line in the book — and then anyone may copy it. No sign means ask.
• Can't reach the creator? Permission can also come from a passed petition, the way any build can be opened through World Rules & Decisions. Ask staff in a ticket if you're not sure whether the creator is still around; unreachable by itself isn't permission.
• What the image is of doesn't change any of this. The work is the map.

• Learning is always fine. Look, walk through, take screenshots, study how it works, use the same techniques, build from the same public tutorial, build something similar in your own way. Nobody owns a style, a farm type, or a technique, and "your build looks like mine" is never a violation.
• Copying is different. Taking a schematic of a build you didn't make or help make, or reproducing someone's distinctive build block for block, needs the creator's permission — the same as making a map of their map art. A schematic also shows you everything inside a build, which is more than vanilla lets you see.
• Designs the creator has shared — posted, handed out, sold as a schematic, built from a public tutorial — are shared, and so are builds the community made together, like spawn. The rule protects work the creator hasn't shared.
• Selling a copy, distributing a schematic, or presenting someone's design as your own needs permission however the copy was made. Ask first — most people say yes and appreciate the credit.
• Original writing, guides, reviews, newspapers, map art, and player-created content are welcome.

• Don't copy someone else's copyrighted work into Cozy — a novel or a script typed into books, a song's lyrics in full, links to pirated films, music, or software. Quotes, titles, references, parody, your own retellings, and fan art of characters are fine. Whole works aren't.
• Map art of a copyrighted image is fan art, and we treat it that way. If a rights-holder asks us to remove something, we will, and we'll tell the person who placed it why.
• Copyright complaints go to [email protected]: what the item is, where it is, and what it copies.
• A first instance is a correction and the item is removed. Deliberately distributing pirated media or software is a conduct issue and escalates like any other.

• Building from a design you're allowed to use — one you made, one shared publicly for people to build, one given to you — is fine here, whatever server or website it came from. A tutorial farm or a public build is a shared design, and building it in survival is your work.
• Where an outside design came from is your responsibility. Cozy doesn't check the provenance of designs from other servers or the internet, and doesn't judge disputes about work made somewhere else. The permission rule above protects work made here, by people here.
• Whatever the source, don't present someone else's design as your own. When it matters — showcases, events, selling — say what's yours and credit what isn't.
• Events and contests can require original work; each event's rules say so.

Everything else reduces to those three lines: work made here needs the creator's permission to copy; work from anywhere is never presented as your own; and what you bring in is yours to answer for.

Proportional, like everything else. A first unauthorized copy is a correction: the schematic is deleted, and copied map art or books are removed. Staff don't demolish builds, but a copied build can't be sold, distributed, or presented as yours. Selling copies, distributing schematics, presenting someone's work as your own, or carrying on after being asked to stop is a warning and up. This isn't theft under the container rules — nobody is wiped over a map or a schematic — but it is a rule, and "it's technically possible" isn't permission.

Nobody here locks their chests, because everyone knows theft doesn't work. The same promise has to hold for the things people make: a creator shouldn't have to destroy a month of work to keep a say in where it goes. Permission is a small ask, and it's the norm most of the community already keeps. Litematica is allowed here for your own builds and for shared designs; pointing it at someone else's build is where convenience becomes taking.
