The rule. Convenience is fine; capability is not. Nothing that changes what you can do, or that gives an advantage over a vanilla player.
The principle
Allowed: mods that change what you see or how information you already have is displayed — visuals, performance, recording, and minimaps that don't reveal what vanilla hides.
Not allowed on Survival: mods that change what you can do — how fast, where, or on what you can place or break blocks; automated actions; information you couldn't get in vanilla; or anything a vanilla player can't do. If a mod's own page says it gives an advantage, it isn't allowed. The Creative server may allow building-assist mods that Survival doesn't; the Duels server has its own combat-mod list.
Allowed
- Shaders, Replay Mod, Distant Horizons, Bobby
- Any minimap, with cave mapping and entity or player radar turned off
- Freecam, as a camera only: it can't pass through blocks (the mod's "no clip" setting stays off) and can't interact — for screenshots and cinematics of what's in plain view
- Litematica, for your own builds and shared designs — it shows you where the block goes, and you place it. Not Easy Place, Printer, or any mode, addon, or tweak that places blocks for you or changes where, how fast, or on what you can place them (Tweakeroo's placement tweaks included), and not for taking schematics of builds you didn't make (see Creative Work)
- Removing regular Nether fog
Not allowed
- X-ray of any kind, glowing ores, fullbright, dynamic lights
- Minimap features that show caves, ores, entities, or players
- Removing lava fog or any visibility exploit used to find ancient debris or other resources
- Freecam set to pass through blocks ("no clip" on) or to interact, or any camera — Freecam or Replay Mod — used to see through walls, roofs, or the ground, to find caves, ores, or players, or to act on anything from the camera's position
- Placement helpers — Litematica's Easy Place and Printer, reach-around or "bridging" placement, placement-delay changes, auto-place
- AutoTotem and other automation that acts for you
- Seed cracking or seed-derived tools
- Anything else that removes the survival challenge or provides an unfair advantage
Immediate removal
X-ray confirmed by multiple staff, or visibility exploits used to locate resources, result in immediate permanent removal.
Why this exists
In a shared world that never resets, resources are finite and effort is the currency. Someone running X-ray isn't just cheating their own game — they're quietly taking from everyone who mined honestly in the same chunks. The convenience-versus-capability line is there so the next new mod can be answered by the rule instead of by a ticket.
